Sweetwater Estate Semillon 2022

Sweetwater Estate Semillon 2022

Sweetwater Estate vineyard grapes are hand-picked on land that has been the setting since 1844, for one of the oldest known vineyard sites in the Lower Hunter Valley.

The small Semillon vineyard at Sweetwater Estate is located on the gentle slopes beneath the main building on clay loam soils giving the Sweetwater semillon a unique florally, citrus profile.  It is much more approachable while young than its sandy river, flat grown siblings.

Grown in ancient soils, nourished by local clear waters and blessed by Australia’s abundant and constant sunshine, this Sweetwater Estate Semillon is produced in typical Hunter Valley style without oak influence.

Harvested in the cool of early morning, before sunrise, the juice was quickly pressed and fermented using wild yeast populations .

Halliday Wine Companion - 92 points

"This wine is a bit of a sleeper; it is cleansing and quiet, though just when you think you have it all worked out, it thrills you with its measured fruit of incredible depth, which is neither too fruity nor too shrill. It is an impeccably made wine with beautiful harmony and intensity." Toni Paterson (April 2024)

The Real Review - 91 points

"Bright, fresh lemongrass aromatics; fine delicate taste, dry and soft textured. Excellent balance and drinkability and has the finesse to age well." Huon Hooke (Jan 2023)

The Wine Front - 93 points

"Grown on terra rossa in the Hunter Valley.  The aromas are very enticing. It’s mostly yellow spectrum of fruits, apples and lemons. Grass and peach blossom. The high-pitched freshness of the aromas is paramount. A bit of candlewax and a dairy element add to the bouquet. Oh, but the flavours. The pure texture and length are excellent, salty and chalky, long and firm, sinking yet light and plush. Drinking great now." Kasia Sobiesiak (Dec 2022)
