New releases at the ready

Now celebrating 25 years of quality production, and a noted five-star winery (Halliday Wine Companion), we are now in an enviable position to build on our heritage and vine-age to pursue a greater level of distinction and wine quality.

The focus being on selecting only the best quality fruit, hand-picked, hand-sorted, we look for the grape varieties that are built to grow here. The region originally known as Sweetwater Station had vineyards planted back in the mid 1800’s. Replanted in 1998, we quickly established exceptional semillon, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon vineyards. Our award-winning winemaker, Bryan Currie, has been at the winemaking helm since November 2016, and he’s not wasted any time delivering his winemaking mastery. Regularly achieving National, and international wine show successes, his team are working tirelessly to showcase the Hunter Valley’s unique terroir and heritage vines.

None more so than our most recent releases, from the 2021 and 2022 vintage. We’d love to share those with you:

2022 Sweetwater Estate Semillon

Hand-picked, and hand-sorted to allow for only the best fruit to be used in the final wine. We used wild yeast during fermentation, and then extended lees handling to further impart complexity, flavour development, palate weight, and detail in the final wine.

Hints of lanolin, grapefruit, and lemon balm, bring this light-bodied expression of Hunter semillon to life. Gestures of white pepper, crisp sugar-snap pea, and pea-flower aromatics. A wine best enjoyed fresh with fresh seafood or lighter dishes; or cellared for 3-8+ years, with richer and more savoury dishes.

2021 Sweetwater Estate Shiraz

This 100% estate-grown shiraz enjoyed a gentle warming season, light winds, and a slightly delayed picking due to some cooler weather towards the end. Producing very ripe, rich, and perfumed dark berries, this wine exudes a generously rich blackberry, blackcurrant, and boysenberry. A rich and savoury spice, with tertiary earthen characters extending the palate. The oak adds further complexity, and richness. With 60% American and 40% French oak used in the maturation program. This wine has luscious primary fruit opulence, and powerful tannin that will soften with decanting, or with ageing. Best enjoyed with slow-roasted meats, or alternatively, a hearty, spiced and roasted vegetable dish.

2021 Sweetwater Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

A beautiful 100% cabernet sauvignon, exhibiting blackberry and jubey raspberry notes, with a fragrant violet perfume. Hints of green leaf and bay, it finishes with savoury cedar and tobacco aromatics. Using aged oak barrel for maturation, the oak imparts as little as possible to the finished wine. Allowing you to lean into this wine's story from the outset. It’s best suited to hard cheddars, or grilled meat dishes. If cellared (4-12+ years), please decant and enjoy after one hour or so.

Our soil produces stunningly expressive wines, with a focus on fruit intensity, aromatics, and structure. The winemaking team has continued to achieve National and International accolades – these new releases will be no different!
