Sweetwater Estate Semillon 2019
Sweetwater Estate vineyard grapes are hand-picked on land that has been the setting since 1844, for one of the oldest known vineyard sites in the Lower Hunter Valley.
The small Semillon vineyard at Sweetwater Estate is located on the gentle slopes beneath the main building on clay loam soils giving the Sweetwater semillon a unique florally, citrus profile. It is much more approachable while young than its sandy river, flat grown siblings and is produced in typical Hunter Valley style without oak influence.
The Semillon block was handpicked at dawn on the 29th January. The warm and dry 2019 vintage resulted in a small crop of perfectly ripe fruit. The pressed juice was unclarified and 'wild' fermented to produce a wine with grapefruit and thyme aromatics followed by a crisp and textural finish.

"Lemongrass and lime nose. The palate is still tightly-wound, as you'd expect from Hunter semillon, but still gives ample pleasure. Really gives me a feel of aromatic herbs, lemongrass, lime zest and ginger. Good flow and drive. The acid is ample but integrated." Stuart Knox (July 2020)
