Sweetwater Estate Shiraz Touriga 2023
After challenging 2021 and 2022 vintages from La Niña weather patterns and significant flooding in the Hunter Valley in July 2022, which resulted from 300mm of rain in four days, vintage 2023 looked like it was going to be another wet and difficult season.
However, the generally sunny conditions continued into February which was fortuitous as Vintage 2023 was one of the latest for many, many years. Harvest gained momentum after Australia Day and was in full swing in the first week of February. The warm and sunny late summer without any heat waves led to an excellent vintage.

"Touriga deserves more love in Australia. It just brightens up everything with an extra berry flourish. This Sweetwater Shiraz Touriga 2023 takes a generous Hunter Shiraz and dials in an extra purple edge. It’s boldish, with that depth of flavour that 2023 adds in for Hunter reds, but still glossy and not OTT. I see the acidity as a little sharp, but it can’t derail what feels like polished modern red with a little something extra." 93 points
