Hunter Valley

Celebrating 25 years of estate-grown wines

Welcome to Sweetwater Estate

Hand-picked. Expertly crafted. Brilliantly aged.

Sweetwater Estate wines are memorable, intricate and polished expressions of the inimitable Hunter Valley region.

In 1844 the first vines at Sweetwater Station were established, and upon this humble vineyard planting one of the region’s most distinguished wineries has prospered. With patience in mind, Chief Winemaker Bryan Currie preserves the hallmarks of Sweetwater Estate fruit and terroir with a contemporary and modern approach to winemaking.

Sweetwater Estate is a Halliday Wine Companion Five Star Winery: an outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.

The Château

Our beautifully restored Château, is located in the heart of Australia’s oldest wine region, the Hunter Valley.

Nestled upon heritage vineyards discovered back in the 1800’s, with picturesque views from the elevated Sweetwater Ridge.

In 1844 the first vines at Sweetwater Station were established. It was this humble vineyard in the Lower Hunter Valley, from which one of the region’s most distinguished wineries has prospered. Sweetwater Estate was seeded with the plantings of the new vineyard in 1998. Today the historic 122-acre property is home to 39 acres of hallmark Hunter Valley fruit including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Mataro and Touriga.

Sweetwater Estate wines are exclusively sourced from the premium fruit grown on the Sweetwater Estate property. Located in the Lower Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. All estate grown, we produce distinctive wines of the highest quality, with a fragrant floral fruit character and rich textural tannins. Soils akin to those in the Coonawarra wine region, our red, loamy soil over limestone produces some of the best cabernet and shiraz in Australia.

Discover our award-winning wines. While our Sweetwater Estate Château doesn't have a cellar door, we invite you to experience our current vintage and exclusive museum releases at our sister-venue, Hungerford Hill, which is located at 2450 Broke Rd, Pokolbin, NSW - open daily from 10am to 5pm.
